[edit] Identification

19 cm. This bird has a purple back, two pale wingbars; the head and breast are pale grey, the belly is white. It ias a white-buff square patch on its rump. The tail and bill are black.

Eastern Russia, northern China and Korea; Cambodia, China, Christmas Island, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Norway, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, and Yemen.

This is a monotypic species which is sometimes placed in the genus Sturnia which result in the scientific name Sturnia sturnina.

Coastal scrub, open country,reedbeds,wooded suburbans parks and forest edges.

[edit] Behaviour

This bird feeds in tree-tops in small parties or large parties up to 100 or more. They roost communally in large numbers.
