This is a monotypic species1.

Diet includes insect larvae, which are obtained by digging in the ground, bulbs of the nutsedge, grass seeds, and insects such as butterflies, moths and grasshoppers.

1-3 eggs are laid after the rains and are incubated for about 15 days.
