Western Africa: occurs only in Chad
Eastern Africa: Sudan (including South Sudan) and Eritrea.

[edit] Subspecies

There are four subspecies[1]:

  • C. r. guinea:
  • C. r. ruficeps:
  • Chad to southern Sudan] (Kordofan and Bahr-el-Ghazal)
  • C. r. scotopterus:
  • Central Sudan (White and Blue Nile valleys) to Eritrea
  • C. r. mongalla:

Mongalla from southern Sudan and northern Uganda has been treated as full species, Mongalla Cisticola.
