Includes Mongalla Cisticola
Western Africa: occurs only in Chad
Eastern Africa: Sudan (including South Sudan) and Eritrea.
There are four subspecies:
- Chad to southern Sudan] (Kordofan and Bahr-el-Ghazal)
- Central Sudan (White and Blue Nile valleys) to Eritrea
Mongalla from southern Sudan and northern Uganda has been treated as full species, Mongalla Cisticola.
Dry savanna and swamps.
