Western Africa: occurs only in Chad
Eastern Africa: Sudan (including South Sudan) and Eritrea.

[edit] Subspecies

There are four subspecies^[1]:

• C. r. guinea:

• Senegal to Nigeria and Cameroon (Adamawa Plateau)

• C. r. ruficeps:

• Chad to southern Sudan] (Kordofan and Bahr-el-Ghazal)

• C. r. scotopterus:

• Central Sudan (White and Blue Nile valleys) to Eritrea

• C. r. mongalla:

• South Sudan (upper White Nile) to northern Uganda

Mongalla from southern Sudan and northern Uganda has been treated as full species, Mongalla Cisticola.
