Western Africa: Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola
Eastern Africa: Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia

There are 3 subspecies[1]:

  • B. s. syndactylus:
  • B. s. woosnami:
  • B. s. nandensis:
  • Western Kenya (Nandi Hills)

An additional subspecies multicolor is generally considered invalid[2].

Lowland moist montane forests and moist shrubland.

A shy bird.
