Identification

31-33 cm. A rather dark Wood Rail.

  • Grey of head and neck extends to belly
  • Maroon-chestnut ear-coverts, sides of neck and median and greater upperwing-coverts
  • Black underwing-coverts with white bars

Sexes similar. Immatures like adults but with blackish bill, legs and feet. Juvenile undescribed.

Distribution

Eastern Ecuador, northeast and east-central Peru and western Brazil.
A poorly known species, rarely observerd.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.

Habitat

Moist seasonally flooded lowland forests and forest around rivers and creeks

Behaviour

No information about diet or breeding available.
