Dark grey back and underparts, large red eye ring, chestnut belly, dull turquoise wings, green-grey bill.

Myanmar, Sumatra, Borneo, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

[edit] Taxonomy

This species is often seen as monotypic, however, some authorities recognize three subspecies: sumatranus, minor, and rodolphi. Some authorities place it in a different genus as Rhopodytes sumatranus.

Moist lowland forests, swamps and mangrove forests.

[edit] Behaviour

The nest is a platform of twigs, placed in the fork of a tree.

The diet includes lizards, grasshoppers, caterpillars.
