Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam.

[edit] Taxonomy

Three subspecies: G.b.bengalensis - Occurs in Nepal, northern India and Bangladesh. Rarely reported away from Nepal.
G.b.striata - Known from Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Hainan. Has declined drastically in much of this range, and no modern records
G.b.sinica - southern China (Guangxi and Guangdong) and Hong Kong. Rarely reported now away from Hong Kong.

A grassland specialist, known from wet lowland grasslands in most of range but largely restricted to hill grasslands (over 500m) in Hong Kong
