  • Greyish-brown upperparts heavily streaked with dark brown
  • Whitwith bold dark brown streaking
  • Pale, slender, pointed bill.

Eastern Africa: found in the Western Rift Valley scarp in Ethiopia.

[edit] Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

This taxon is considered a subspecies of Yemen Serin by some authors.
It is placed in different genera, eg Carduelis or Serinus.

Montane scrub, tussock grass and heath on steep slopes and cliffs.

[edit] Status

Only discovered in 1976, this is a rare and elusive species. Classified as Vulnerable in the 2008 IUCN Red List.3

[edit] Behaviour

Three eggs are laid in a nest which is made in a hole beneath an overhanging earth bank.
