  • Dark brown upperparts, heavily streaked with buff
  • White underparts
  • Cinnamon flanks
  • Black crown
  • White supercilium
  • Black eyestripe
  • Brown tail
    • Feathers long, slender and pointed

South America: found from eastern Bolivia to south-central Brazil, eastern Paraguay, Uruguay and north-eastern Argentina.

This is a monotypic species1.

Open dry and wet grassland.

They forage in pairs and small groups mostly for insects, with seeds also probably being eaten.
