Alternative name: Elegant Mourner; includes Andean Laniisoma and Brazilian Laniisoma4
[edit] Identification[edit] DistributionEastern Brazil, western Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. [edit] TaxonomyFour subspecies are recognized[1]: elegans in Brazil, venezuelense, buckleyi, and cadwaladeri from the Andes. The large distance from the Andean populations to eastern Brazil has led to proposals of splitting into two species. This split is recognised by Gill and Donsker (2010)[3], but not by Clements (2010)[1] or Dickinson (2003)[2]. In the past this species belonged in the family Cotingidae. It is now placed in the Tityridae5 which is the cause of the name "Elegant Mourner"; this placement has now been accepted by Clements1. [edit] HabitatHumid forests, especially in hilly regions but lower elevations. [edit] Behaviour[edit] VocalisationListen in an external program Recording by Andrew Whitehouse [edit] References
