Brownish to reddish-brown upperside, slaty-grey underside, pink legs and yellow to greenish bill.

The bill is shorter and thicker than the superficially similar Blackish Rail, which also lack the brown tones to the upperside.

South eastern Brazil to Paraguay and north eastern Argentina

A monotypic species.
