Hylopezus macularius

Contents

[edit] Identification

[edit] Distribution

Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela.

[edit] Taxonomy

Three subspecies are recognized[1]:

  • H. m. macularius
  • H. m. diversus
  • H. m. paraensis

A revision has been proposed that would name one additional taxon, and lead to three distinct biological species: Hylopezus paraensis (Snethlage´s Antpitta), Hylopezus whittakeri, sp. nov. (Alta Floresta Antpitta), and Hylopezus macularius (Spotted Antpitta) with the latter containing subspecies dilutus (which may also deserve status as independent biological species). In this proposal, birds currently placed in paraensis would be split into three groups: those retained in paraensis, those placed in whittakeri, and those lumped with the birds formerly placed in diversus which now becomes dilutus[2].

[edit] Habitat

Moist lowland forests.
