10 cm. Mainly dark brown with light streaking on head and yellowish rump.

New Guinea.

[edit] Taxonomy

Several subspecies accepted.
Leucosticta from the lowlands of southern New Guinea is sometimes accepted as full species, White-spotted Munia.

Streams, forest clearings and abandoned gardens.

[edit] Behaviour

The diet includes seeds, berries and insects.

It builds a globular grass nest with side entrance, often suspended from rattans, in forest or at forest edge.
