22 cm. Long bright rufous tail, brown back with dark streaks, buff streaked dark brown cap and paler eyestripe, cheeks have a tuft of buff-white feathers, white throat, underparts are olive brown with diffuse spotting on the breast. The sexes are similar.

Venezuela, and Bolivia.

It is sometimes considered conspecific with the Buffy Tuftedcheek, P. lawrencii.

Wet mountain forests.

It forages amongst mosses, vines, and bromeliads for insects, spiders, and small amphibians.
