Yellow underparts, black "V" on the breast, white flanks streaked with black, brown upper parts with black streaks, long pointed bills, heads are striped with light brown and black.

Western and central North America to southern Mexico. Kaua'i, Hawaii.

Polytypic. Consists of two subspecies.

Grasslands, prairies, pastures, and abandoned fields.

[edit] Behaviour

Their nests are situated on the ground, and are covered with a roof woven from grass.

The diet includes insects, seeds and berries.
