Identification
18 - 19cm. A mid-sized babbler.
- Scaled dark brown above
- Dull rusty with vague dark scales and pale streaks below
- Whitish throat
Sexes similar. Juveniles undescribed.
Distribution
Montane forests of western Sumatra
Restricted-range species but common in parts of its range.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.[1]
May form a superspecies with Black-throated Wren-Babbler and Large Wren-Babbler.
Also placed in genus Napothera.
Habitat
Primary montane broadleaf evergreen forest. Also in dense roadside vegetation in conifer plantations. Found at 900 - 2500m.
Behaviour
Feeds on insects and small snails.
Usually seen on the ground or just above it, foraging in leaf litter.
No information about breeding.
Resident species.
