Found on Sumatra, Java, Bali and Borneo.

Three subspecies, which are also considered as full species by some authorities:

  • M. g. glaucinus (Javan Whistling-Thrush) on Java and Bali
  • M. g. castaneus (Chestnut-winged Whistling-Thrush) on Sumatra
  • M. g. borneensis (Bornean Whistling-Thrush) on Borneo

Moist montanes.

The diet includes snails.

Its cup shaped nest is built from moss and twigs in a rock crevice and is lined with roots nd leaves. 3-4 grey speckled eggs are laid.
