Distribution
South America: found in north-eastern Brazil (north-eastern Maranhão, eastern Pernambuco and adjacent Alagoas). Locally common, but still considered probably declining in range.
Taxonomy
This taxon is considered a subspecies of Rufous-capped Spinetail by some authors2
