Identification
Approximate: Size – 15 centimeters/ 6 inches, Weight - 16 grams/ ½ ounce
- Lackluster, dark gray to brown face, forehead, and head
- Brownish maroon further down to rump and upper portion of tail
- Brown iris
- Long Bill
- Mandible dark shades of gray
- Sexes alike
- Juvenile: Lower mandible pink shaded yellow
Distribution
In South America, this species is found in Southern Ecuador (Zamora-Chinchipe), and to northwestern Peru (northern Cajamarca).
In 2021 regarded as Critically Endangered by the IUCN.[4]
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.[1]
Habitat
Trees, undergrowth, and areas in the process of rejuvenation, frequently along waterways and humid regions, at elevations of 500 meters/1600 feet to 1900 meters/6200 feet.
