Identification

19–20 cm (7½-7¾ in)

  • Dark rufous-brown head, upperparts and wings
  • Buff supercilium
  • Buff streaking on head, neck and back
  • Buff-rufous underparts
  • Rufous tail
  • Upturned bill

Distribution

South America: found in the yungas of western Bolivia (La Paz, Cochabamba and western Santa Cruz) and extreme south west Peru.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].
It's sometimes placed in the genus Simoxenops.

Habitat

Foothill evergreen forests between 640 and 1700m.

Behaviour

Diet

They are often seen in mixed species flocks. Their main diet consists of arthropods.
