[edit] Identification

47-51cm. Grey-brown above, with white and black spots, pale chesnut-brown to brown-buff facial disk, with darker patch around the eyes, black-brown eyes, white-cream bill, underparts marked with large dark spots, feathered legs, grey-brown to yellow-grey toes with black-brown talons. Females are darker and larger than males.

Forests and semi open wooded areas.

[edit] Behaviour

Nocturnal. The diet includes small mammals, up to the size of rabbits, small birds and lizards. It makes its nest in tree hollows. 2-4 white eggs are laid and incubated by the female. The young fledge at 10-12 weeks.
