[edit] Areas of Interest

The North part of Te Urewera is very unspoiled with few visitors. In this part is the biggest Kokako population in New Zealand. But You need a fine morning ( good is between 7 - 8 am ) in the mountains. Best start at 5 am in the valley.

[edit] Access and Facilities

To very nice camping place on lake Waikaramona is 90 km gravel road ( driving speed 30 - 40 km/h). So lot of people do not like to drive this road. Near the camping place is a big national parc centre. From Rotorua is a street to information centre. From there is another 30 minutes to Whirinaki forest. Very nice forest with lot of the Kahikatea, the tallest tree of New Zealand ( 65 meters ).
