Only recently given national park status, this large forested area lies on the outskirts of Stockholm and is one of the largest intact blocks of coniferous forest in the south of Sweden. There are also mires and lakes.

Birds include Western Capercaillie, Hazel Grouse and Black Grouse, Tengmalm's Owl and Eurasian Pygmy Owl, Black Woodpecker, Spotted Nutcracker and Parrot Crossbill.

To reach the park leave Stockholm on Motorway 73 and turn off on the Route 227 at Handen, then head for Tyresta village. The park has marked footpaths.
