Identification

19cm. Red-and-green, golden-yellow bill and eyes, dark green upperparts shading to golden-yellow at the tip of the wedge-shaped tail. Vivid red cheeks and underparts, dark purple patch on belly and a broken breast band across the chest that is green at the sides and purple in the centre.

Distribution

Henderson Island in the Pitcairn Group, south-central Pacific Ocean.

Taxonomy

Habitat

Native forest, favouring forest edge, and in coconut palms along the shoreline.

Behaviour

The diet includes nectar, pollen and fruit and insects.
