From Opus

Contents

[edit] Overview

A nature area in the SW part of Calgary with trails along the Elbow River. From what I hear, probably one of the top 3 birding sites in the Calgary area.

I saw the following on 2-Sep just near the river a few hours one cool gray morning :

Canada Goose 3 Common Goldeneye 1 Ruffed Grouse 2 Bald Eagle 1 Spotted Sandpiper 2 Downy Woodpecker 4 Northern Flicker 3 Blue Jay 1 Black-billed Magpie 3 American Crow 1 Black-capped Chickadee 30 Boreal Chickadee 2 American Robin 9 Gray Catbird 3 Yellow-rumped Warbler 1 White-throated Sparrow 2 American Goldfinch

[edit] Access And Facilities

There are 3 main areas Weaselhead Nature Area, North Glenmore lake, South Glenmore Lake. It is a drive between each area. I'd recommend Weaselhead Nature Area at 37th Street and 66th Ave.

There is a great website weaselhead.org that gives up-to-date bird/wildlife observations and directions to see specific birds within the park www.weaselhead.org/lists/

For example here's the September list: http://www.weaselhead.org/lists/index.php?where_seen=396&reporter=&month_seen=9&year_seen=

141 Species have been seen here during month of September.
