Distribution

Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Taxonomy

Authorities may elevate subspecies prasinorrhous as "Small island Fruit Dove" or "Moluccan Fruit Dove" (P. prasinorrhous) as it is morphologically distinct from other taxa [2].

Subspecies

Clements recognises 5 subspecies [1]:

• P. r. prasinorrhous: "Small island Fruit Dove". Moluccas, Aru Islands, western Papuan island and islands in Geelvink Bay
• P. r. bellus: Mountains of New Guinea, Karkar Island and Goodenough Island
• P. r. miquelii: Yapen Island and Meos Num Island (northern New Guinea)
• P. r. rivoli Bismarck Archipelago
• P. r. strophium: Egum Atoll (Trobriand Islands) and Louisiade Archipelago

Habitat

Moist lowland forests and montanes.
