- Dark brown overall plumage
- White belly
- White stripe over ears
Distribution
Africa
Eastern Africa: Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique and Malawi.
Southern Africa: Zimbabwe, South Africa, KwaZulu-Natal and eSwatini.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 3 subspecies[1]:
- S. l. kilimensis:
- S. l. leucogrammica:
- Highlands of south-central Tanzania (Uluguru Mountains to Mahenge)
- S. l. leucotis:
- Malawi and Mozambique south to eSwatini and Natal
An additional subspecies rufopectoralis is generally considered invalid[1].
Habitat
Coastal primary and secondary forests and bush, especially alongside rivers.
Behaviour
Diet
Their main diet consists of fruit, particularly figs. They also eat guavas, pawpaws, mangoes and juniper berries.
