This species ranges from Brazil north to extreme eastern Panama.

[edit] Taxonomy

Four subspecies are recognized in this species1: simulans, canadensis, frontalis, and brasiliensis. Subspecies simulans which occurs in Darien (eastern Panama) isolated from other subspecies of this species as well as from Black-faced Grosbeak is sometimes included in Black-faced Grosbeak; however, simulans shares a yellow (not grey) underside with the rest of Yellow-green Grosbeak while Black-faced Grosbeak has a grey underside.

Black-faced Grosbeak was in the past included in Yellow-green Grosbeak.
