Identification

12·7–13·5 cm
Male

  • Black plumage with blue sheen
  • Long rictal bristles
  • Large eyes

Distribution

South America: found in Colombia, southern Venezuela, western Guyana to eastern Ecuador, Peru and Amazonian Brazil.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Varzea forests, swamps and damp thickets.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists almost entirely of insects.
