Atlapetes blancae

Identification

Overall grey with rufous crown while completely lacking yellow in the plumage. Breast is white contrasting to grey belly. The wing speculum is comparatively small, and it has a strong white malar, and some black in the moustacial.

Similar Species

Differs from Slaty Brush-Finch in being paler and some of the items mentioned above.

Distribution

Colombia in north central Andes. Not observed since 1971 and might be extinct, or may be surviving in an unknown area?

Taxonomy

Described as distinct species in 2007 based on three 20th century museum specimens previously labeled as Slaty Brush-Finch, and therefore obviously monotypic.

Habitat

Unknown

Behaviour

Unknown, except that one can guess at similar to other Atlapetes species.
