South America: endemic to Peru: found in the south-central Andes (Apurímac, Cuzco and Puno)

Taxonomy

Monotypic[1]

Sometimes lumped with Rufous-eared Brush Finch (Atlapetes rufigenis).[2]

Habitat

Woodland and shrubbery.
