Distribution

Madeira, Azores and western Canary Islands

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

A variety of lowland and sub-montane pine and laurel forests and woodland.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists almost entirely of grass and herb seeds; with the addition of buds, fruit and some insects.

Breeding

Monogamous. They nest in bushes or trees.
