Distribution
South America: endemic to Peru.

There are 3 subspecies[1]:
- C. b.i baroni:
- Andes of Peru (Amazonas and Cajamarca)
- C. b. capitalis:
- Andes of Peru (Huánuco )
- C. b. zaratensis:
- Andes of southern Peru (Pasco and Lima)
This taxon is considered a subspecies of Line-cheeked Spinetail by some authors[2]

Moist and semi-arid montane woodland, particularly with alder trees
