28 cm. White head, yellow skin around eyes, black bill, black collar, white underparts and rump, yellow legs. Juvenile lacks black collar.

This is a monotypic species. Some authorities place this species in the genus Gracupica.

The diet includes earthworms, fly eggs, beetles and berries.

They breed from April to June each year; large nests are built on top of trees.
