Identification

13·5 cm (5¼ in)

  • Black crown centre
  • Black eye stripe
  • Yellow supercilium
  • Yellow lower eye crescent

Distribution

South America: found in the Andes of Colombia to northern Venezuela, Ecuador and northern Peru.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].
Formerly placed in genus Basileuterus.

Habitat

Moist montanes, rain forest and temperate shrub.

Behaviour

Diet

Their main diet seens to consist mostly of invertebrates, generally foraged from lower levels in the shrubbery.
