23-26 cm
Adult
- Black facial mask from bill to ear coverts
- Grey rump
- Upper-parts varying between mid and dark grey
- Olive-yellow edged remiges and outer rectrices
- Dark grey sub-moustachial stripe
- Grey chin and upper throat
- Fine mottling on breast
- White belly
- Yellow bill and skin behind eye
Juvenile rather browner
Similar Species
Looks much the same as the Yellow-throated Miner and sounds exctly like Noisy Miner
Distribution
Restricted to mallee of south-central Australia
Status
Threatened mostly due to habitat loss.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Mallee woodland.
Behaviour
Breeding
The breeding pair is assited by up to 13 helpers, mainly males.
Diet
The diet includes insects.
Vocalisation
Variety of harsh notes, chattering.
