This species has been proposed split into 2 species:

  • Cyornis rubeculoides (Blue-throated Flycatcher, four subspecies)
  • Cyornis glaucicomans (Chinese Blue-Flycatcher, monotypic)

However, the main taxonomic authorities have not recognized this split yet, and Opus is therefore also following suit.

Subspecies[1]

  • C. r. rubeculoides:
  • C. r. dialilaemus:
  • C. r. rogersi:
  • Myanmar (Arakan Yoma and lower Chindwin River area)
  • C. r. glaucicomans:
  • Southern China (Sichuan, Guizhou, western Hubei and Shaanxi)

The subspecies klossi of Hainan Blue Flycatcher was formerly included in this species.

Habitat

Sub-montane open forest and scrub and wooded areas.
