Identification
19–25 cm
- Brown upperparts with many black and white spots
- Cinnamon underparts with brown and white spots
Distribution
Found in northern Thailand, southern Burma and central Vietnam to peninsular Thailand south to Sumatra and Borneo.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
Two subspecies recognized:
- B. a. continentalis in Burma, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam
- B. a. affinis from southern Thailand to Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo
Formerly considered conspecific with Javan Frogmouth and Palawan Frogmouth.
Habitat
Forests and mangroves.
Behaviour
Diet
Their main diet consists of insects which are gathered from the ground or along branches.
