12.5-14 cm. Plain brown back, pale underparts. Sexes identical. Juvenile - more yellow below.

Asia and easternmost Europe. It is migratory, wintering in India and Sri Lanka.

Monotypic.

Scrubland and clearings near water.

The diet includes insects and some berries.

They nest in a bush and 4-6 eggs are laid.
