Africa: found locally in southern Cameroon; north-western Angola to western Kenya and north-western Tanzania.

This is a monotypic species^[1].

Subspecies kenia is generally considered invalid^[2].

Placed in genus Erythropygia by Gill and Donsker.

Moist savanna.
