South America: found in Brazil.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 2 subspecies[1]:
- H. o. obsoletus:
- Mountains of south-eastern Brazil (Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo)
- H. o. zimmeri:
- Mountains of south-eastern Brazil (Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul)
Habitat
Atlantic Rain Forest with stands of bamboo.
Behaviour
Diet
Their main diet consists of insects, which they forage for in bamboo thickets, generally around 1-3 m from the ground.
Breeding
They construct a globular ball nest about 17.5cm high and 16cm wide. It has a domed roof.
