Africa:
Western Africa: Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, DRC, Angola
Eastern Africa: Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania
African Islands: Gulf of Guinea Islands, Bioko (Fernando Po)
Taxonomy
Formerly placed in genus Alethe.
Subspecies[1]
There are 10 subspecies:
- P. p. poliocephala: Sierra Leone to Ghana
- P. p. hallae: Angola (Gabela escarpment of Cuanza Sul)
- P. p. giloensis: Southern Sudan
- P. p. carruthersi: Extreme southern Sudan to north-eastern Zaire, Uganda and western Kenya
- P. p. compsonota: Nigeria and Cameroon to north-western Angola (Quicolungo); Bioko
- P. p. vandeweghei: Rwanda and Burundi
- P. p. nandensis: Western Kenya (Nandi Hills)
- P. p. akeleyae: Kenya east of the Rift Valley
- P. p. kungwensis: Western Tanzania (Kungwe-Mahari Mountains)
- P. p. ufipae: South-western Tanzania (Ufipa Plateau) and south-eastern Zaire
Subspecies nandensis is not recognised[2] by all authorities.
Habitat
Moist forests and montanes.
