14cm. Male - brown upperparts, red rump, rufous underparts speckled white, orange-red throat band. Female - dull white throat band, paler underparts. Juvenile - lighter upperparts, brown grey head.

Nigeria, Chad, and Sudan to Angola and Kenya.

[edit] Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species which makes it the only member of its genus.

Grasslands, shrubby areas, savannas, forests.

[edit] Behaviour

The diet includes insects, spiders and grass seeds.

4-6 eggs are laid and incubated for 13 days; the young fledge about 20 days later.
