  • Rufous tail
  • Violet blue highlights

Distribution

Endemic to Mexico.

Accidental vagrant to Arizona (two 19th century specimens]].

Taxonomy

Subspecies[1]

Two subspecies are recognized:

  • A. h. margarethae:
  • Mountains of north-western Mexico (south-eastern Sinaloa and south-western Chihuahua to Jalisco)

  • Highlands of Mexico (central Tamaulipas to Guerrero and Oaxaca)

An additional subspecies morcomi is generally considered invalid[1].

Cloud forest.

Behaviour

Breeding

The female builds the cup nest from finely woven plant fibre bound with spiders web, and is suspended from a leaf. The clutch consists of 2 white eggs.
