Genus: Atticora

[edit] Description

The three species expected to occur in this genus in the future are not obviously similar in external morphology, but DNA studies show that they are each others closest relatives.

[edit] Taxonomy

Atticora is a genus in the family Hirundinidae.
White-thighed Swallow and Black-capped Swallow are sometimes also placed in this genus.
SACC has passed a proposal to rearrange the taxonomy of South American Swallows; according to this, the future genus Atticora will include White-banded Swallow, White-thighed Swallow, and Black-capped Swallow, while Black-collared Swallow will be moved to genus [:Category:Pygochelidon|Pygochelidon]].
