Genus: Contopus

[edit] Description

The genus Contopus is a group of small to medium-sized insectivorous birds in family Tyrannidae, the Tyrant flycatchers. The common names for all except one is Pewee, a name derived from the call of the Eastern Wood Pewee, Contopus virens. Their appearance is typical of the tyrant flycatchers - overall gray to olive, with prominent wing bars, and can be difficult to distinguish among other members of the family.
