From Opus

Genus: Piranga

[edit] Description

A genus of New World passerine birds with common names of Tanager, but actually they are members of the Cardinal family. They have similar morphs and habits with the true tanagers (genus Tangara), but the latter are typically multi-colored, whereas Pirangas are primarily red or orange, except for black wings and tail.

[edit] Taxonomy

Piranga is a genus in the Family Thraupidae. New research has shown, that this genus should better be placed in a realigned Cardinalidae. As the Opus follows Clements in terms of families it's still placed within the Tanagers.
