• Glossy black plumage
• Bright chestnut breast and belly
• Blue-grey shoulder patches
• Dark bluish-grey rump
• Dark iris
• Black upturned, sharply hooked bill

[[South America]: found in the western Andes of Colombia (Antioquia to Cauca).

This is a monotypic species^[1].

Subspecies boylei is not recognised by all authorities^[2].

High-altitude shrubland and moist montane forests, 3,000-3,750m.
