Length 43-45cm (17-18in.)
Typical morph of tropical Toucans, with huge (15cm) bill, black body, and bright yellow front. Long black tail, white rump, and bright red undertail coverts.

Similar to Chestnut-mandibled Toucan, but slightly smaller, and lower section of bill is black instead of chestnut-colored (hard to distinguish in poor light).

South America: found in the lowland and foothills on west side of Andes mountains, Ecuador and Colombia.

This is a monotypic species^[1].

Canopy and borders of humid forests.

[edit] Behaviour

The clutch consists of 3-4 white eggs which are incubated for 16 days; the young fledge about 45-50 days later.
