Identification
- Blue-grey upperparts, wings and tail
- Black face mask
- Small cinnamon eyebrow, ear-coverts and throat
- Cinnamon breast and upper belly, grey lower belly
- Cinnamon undertail-coverts
Sexes similar. Immatures are similar but duller.
Distribution
South America: found in east and central Brazil and north-eastern Argentina.
Uncommon to locally fairly common. Former subspecies sicki only known from type locality.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
The subspecies capistrata and sicki are now merged with the nominate.
Habitat
Dry scrubby areas in cerrado and caatinga. Semi-open grassy country, edge of forests.
Behaviour
Feeds mainly on fruit. Takes also some insects.
One breeding record in December in southern Brazil. The nest contained 2 eggs.
Few data on movements. Presumably a partial migrant, leaving seasonally parts of central Brazil.
